About me
Student at the University of Cambridge and builder focused on technology, policy, and entrepreneurship.
I'm Stan van Baarsen, currently studying a master's in Technology Policy at the University of Cambridge. After graduating this summer, I plan to focus full time on building a startup. I'm excited to build a venture that creates meaningful change at the intersection of technology, policy, and society.

I completed two bachelor's degrees, in Computer Science at Leiden University and International Business Administration at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, with a focus on political and public economics. I also studied abroad in New York to broaden my global perspective.

My recent work
For my computer science bachelor's thesis, I tackled a theoretical problem in quantum computing with no prior background. I self-taught all concepts, designed and executed research independently, and built a C++ repository for quantum state preparation algorithms.
For my international business bachelor's thesis, I built a simulation model to analyze the distributional effects of the lowering of the imputed rent tax in the Netherlands between 2018 and 2023. The findings showed that most of the tax relief went to the wealthiest 20%, while house prices rose—making homeownership harder for new buyers.

Together with Stephan Hoogland, we manage all IT operations for Timmerdorp Heiloo (a mid-sized annual event), including building and maintaining the website, web shop, and mobile app.
